Well Yield Testing
|
Well Yield Testing is a test to determine how many gallons per minute a home can put out in a given period of time.
A Well Yield Test will show:
- A functioning well pump and pressure tank.
- If a well is running dry/lacks sufficient recuperation.
- The flow rate of water entering the well from the ground.
- If the buyers would have to stretch the time between running water: showers, laundry, car washing, dish washer, etc.
Home Land Septic Consulting offers both a full, 3hour
well yield test and a shorter, less stressful 1-hour
Modified Yield Test.
3-hour test: $325
More accurate Well Yield Test. The 3 hours give
sufficient time to run through the reserves of water
in the well so we can see the actual amount of water
falling into the well from the ground, which, by
definition, is the well yield. This 3-hour test is
required in Baltimore County, and may extend up to
6 hours ($375 is the Baltimore County Yield Price)
1-hour test: $125
This is a shorter, lower stress test. It still adds
value to the buyer, but does not represent the true
statistics of the well, as a 3-hour test will do.
During a Well Yield Test, Home Land Septic Consulting
will run water from the well and measure this water in
consistent intervals. For best results water should be
taken directly from the pressure tank whenever
possible. Five gallons of water is the sample amount
at each of these intervals. The last 5-gallon reading
is determined to be the well flow or yield for that
well.
Due to water running through the bottlenecks of the
well pump and pressure tank 10-12 gallons per minute
is usually the best results for the test. This number
is different from the gallons per minute produced at
the time of drilling, as the bottleneck is eliminated.
Shorter tests should be extended if the flow rate is
low, the pressure tank takes longer to fill up or
the water runs out. A typical family of 4 uses
approximately 250 gallons per day.
